BUFFALO – D’Youville College received a $100,000 grant from the Buffalo
based Vincent & Harriet Palisano Foundation to be used for the new
college academic center that opened in May. The center houses
D’Youville’s new pharmacy program and the college Office of Admissions.
The
grant will be used for classrooms and facilities in the new center and
D’Youville will honor the Palisano family and the foundation by naming a
classroom for them.
"This grant will be of significant help,
especially for our pharmacy program and the needed laboratories and
specially equipped classrooms,” said William P. McKeever, director of
foundation relations at D’Youville.
There are only five schools
of pharmacy in New York State, two of which are in the western part,
according to McKeever. "Our program will focus on the expanding role of
the community pharmacist and train students to work in the community
setting where the need is greatest.”
The pharmacy program begins
in August with a first class of 66 students.
"The Palisano grant
will be a significant help to D’Youville in making possible its current
initiatives and expansion and I am grateful to the foundation for their
generosity and all that it will provide for our students,” said Sister
Denise A. Roche, college president.
The Palisano Foundation was
established in 1962 and supports higher and secondary education and
cancer research in Western New York.
