D’YOUVILLE HONORS TWO BUFFALO NATIVES AT 2010 COMMENCEMENT

BUFFALO – D’Youville College will graduate approximately 800 students at its 102nd annual commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 22 at Kleinhans Music Hall beginning at 9:00 a.m. Honorary Degrees will be conferred upon Dr. Marcella Farinelli Fierro, M.D., a forensic pathologist and retired chief medical examiner of the Commonwealth of Virginia and Robert M. Greene, partner in the local law firm of Phillips Lytle LLP. Both are Buffalo natives. Dr. Fierro, a member of the D’Youville class of 1962, will deliver the commencement address. She served in the Virginia medical examiners office for more than 30 years and worked on some of the nation’s most notorious crimes, including the Virginia Tech massacre. She is considered one of the world’s foremost forensic pathologists. Dr. Fierro is best known as the real-life inspiration of one of the most famous female characters in crime fiction, "Dr. Kay Scarpetta,” the heroine of the best selling mystery books by noted author Patricia Cornwell who modeled her character after Dr. Fierro. Mr. Greene is one of the most accomplished lawyers in Western New York specializing in health law and not-for-profit corporate law and has been a member of Phillips Lytle for 39 years. He is known for his community service and volunteering to help others. Mr. Greene has traveled to Haiti volunteering in aid programs and is on the board of Global Health Ministry, coordinating medical team visits to Third World countries. D’Youville, now in its second century, is an international leader in health care and teacher education. - 30 –
