D’YOUVILLE ONCE AGAIN SAYS “TENNIS ANYONE?”
Wednesday, June 03, 2009
BUFFALO – D’Youville College will resume tennis and plans to start a
men’s and women’s tennis team for the fall ’09 semester and the 2010
spring semester.
D’Youville last offered tennis in 1980.
Athletic
Director Brian Cavanaugh said the women’s team is already scheduled to
have 13 matches starting with an away match against Wells College on
September 10. He is currently planning the men’s schedule which will
start March 2010.
Dr. Robert Gamble, professor of education at
D’Youville and a long time professional tennis director at Camp
Robindel in New Hampshire, has been appointed coach of both teams.
“D’Youville
athletics, with the support of Sister Denise Roche, our president,
continues to grow and provide more opportunity for student-athletes”,
Cavanaugh said. “We look forward to adding tennis for both men and
women students; it will bring our total number of teams to 14 and we
will be joining the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC).”
The teams will practice and host both indoor and outdoor matches at the Miller Tennis Center on Sheridan Drive in Williamsville.
“I
couldn’t be more excited to be working out and playing at the Center as
it is unquestionably the top facility in the area”, Gamble said. “This
will give our players the opportunity to play on both clay and hard
courts in preparation for a very rigorous season.”
D’Youville, a private college, competes at the NCAA Division III level.
