Speaker Biographies

Jamie DeWaters, Ph.D. Dr. DeWaters began teaching part-time at D’Youville in 1978 and became a full-time faculty member in the Department of Education in 1981. Currently, she teaches graduate special education courses. Dr. DeWaters views her students as partners in learning, and she strives to kindle enthusiasm and respect for the population they will be teaching. She has a deep respect for her colleagues and their dedication to teaching, and over the years, many of her colleagues have become dear friends. She could not imagine a more fulfilling profession!

Glen D. McClary, Ph.D. Dr. McClary has been an educator for 38 years, 30 with the City of Buffalo. He has enjoyed a varied career working with kids in grade 5 all the way through directing candidates for PhD's. This is his 18th year at D'Youville, 8 of them full time. Before joining the Education Department he was an adjunct in Math and Natural Sciences, where he got his start from Ken Barker. A one "shot" semester in basic Chemistry turned into ten years of fun and commitment at DYC. He is forever grateful for Ken's guidance and support over the years. Dr. McClary also has a deep and long interest in Native American culture and education as well the cross curricular study of the life and physical sciences as they pertain to the learning of adolescents. He is presently the Program Director for the Adolescent Education division.

Sheila G. Dunn, Ph.D. Dr. Dunn is Professor of Education at DYC and currently the Assessment Coordinator at the College. She enjoys international travel and staying up all night to read good books. She agrees with Iris Murdoch that "it is a task to come to see the world as it is."
