The Fireside Chats are a series of conversations and remembrances with present and retired faculty. The presenters will reflect on their time at D’Youville College, their colleagues and students—past and present, the changes they have witnessed at the college and their vision of D’Youville College for the future. Speaker BiographiesJoseph A. Grande, Ph.D. Dr. Grande followed a career in higher education for nearly 40 years. He first was a teaching fellow at Notre Dame University and then in 1958 joined the Faculty at D'Youville College as an assistant professor. His association at D'Youville lasted 37 years. During that time he advanced to the rank of full professor and served as a division chair, director of graduate studies, assistant vice president for academic affairs and vice president for academic affairs, a position he held when he retired in 1995. Dr. Grande is a published author of several articles and books, the last of which was Glancing Back: A Pictorial History of Amherst, New York. He was also very active in the historical preservation movement, helping to author the preservation ordinances in the Village of Kenmore and the Town of Amherst. David H. Kelly, Ph.D. Dr. Kelly has taught at D'Youville for 32 years. While finishing his Ph. D. at Indiana University in Modern American History he worked as a educational bibliographer at the University of Wisconsin. He also had fields in Russian and European History and Sociology. He has been part of educational tours and exchanges in China, Russia, Nigeria and Ireland. He has published –edited, compiled, written (often with others)– eight books, five monographs, five introductions or chapters. He is currently working on a history of D'Youville College. Jill M. Church, M.L.S. Mrs. Church has been Head of the Periodicals Department of the Library since 1991, and was heavily involved in the planning and execution of moving the library into its current location. She is an active member and Past President of the Executive Board of an international chapter of the Association of College and Research Libraries, and has authored over 25 articles for Sage encyclopedias in recent years. As the mother of two sons and a daughter, she has also spent a great deal of time supporting tee ball, Cub Scout, and Parent-Teacher Group activities in the Attica school system. |
